Manufacturing is the second highest wealth creating sector in the region, employing around 250,000 people. The East of England ranks as one of the EU's top R&D regions, and while our Universities are pushing the frontiers of science and technology, commercial R&D facilities are speeding innovations to market - hence many leading companies are choosing to locate here, creating new jobs and providing a more secure future for our economy.

Case studies Group Lotus Group Lotus employs almost 1,000 people around the world and is working with The National Skills Academy for Manufacturing (the Skills Academy) to further improve the skills of its workforce employed at its Hethel Plant in Norfolk. Foster Refrigerator This innovative industry leader has launched an advanced range of 'green' refrigeration products that reduce carbon emissions and are 50 per cent cheaper to run than any of its competitors' products. Sweet savings for Billingtons Sugar supplier saves £800,000 with some hands-on support from MAS East. Farécla products will go on shining Farécla requested MAS assistance to improve productivity through reduction of changeovers and improved operation of the production cycle. Framptons Ltd In its bid to become the most carbon efficient company in its sector, Framptons has halved its carbon footprint, reduced waste-to-landfill by 80 per cent and saved over one million kWh of energy - all in only two years. Anton Barrick Apprentice, Anton, was invited by his employer, Perkins Engines, to join an elite team working in its newly built crank line facility in Peterborough - one of the company's biggest manufacturing investments in the UK.
