About the provider: The Technology Strategy Board is an executive non-departmental public body (NDPB), established by the Government in 2007 and sponsored and funded by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), as well as other Government Departments, the Devolved Administrations, Regional Development Agencies and Research Councils. Its role is to stimulate technology-enabled innovation in the areas which offer the greatest scope for boosting UK growth and productivity by promoting, supporting and investing in technology research, development and commercialisation. The TSB also advises Government on how to remove barriers to innovation and accelerate the exploitation of new technologies.
As well as investing in programmes and projects through competitions, the work TSB manages a range of additional programmes and delivery mechanisms to drive innovation. These include:-
- Knowledge Transfer Networks (KTNs) - national networks around specific fields of technology or business applications, to bring together people from businesses, universities, research, finance and technology organisations in order to stimulate innovation through knowledge transfer and sharing of ideas.
- Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) - the placement of a high calibre, recently-qualified individual into a business to work on innovation projects in order to increase business interaction with the university 'knowledge base'.
- Micro and Nanotechnology Centres - were formed to address key gaps in the existing capabilities available to the UK Micro and Nanotechnology community, by providing open access to a range of key capabilities and services at market rates.
Application process: Will depend on the competition being entered.
