Financing emerging clean energy

Funding available: Carbon Trust Investments offers two funding streams:-

• Low Carbon Seed Fund - Typically up to £500k as an equity stake alongside other commercial investors on a like for like basis in UK-based, clean energy companies typically seeking to raise up to £1m.  The total investment of transactions will typically be between £500K and £1.5m.
• Clean Energy Fund - Typically between £250k and £3m for any given business, with an average transaction size between £500k and £10m - Carbon Trust Investments only covers up to 50 per cent of the funding required for any one transaction, therefore other private investors must be identified for the remainder.

Who is it for? Companies developing innovative technologies that will create and deliver clean energy businesses.

What is it for? Financing innovation within emerging renewable and clean energy technology businesses - those operating within the energy supply chain which have the potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and other greenhouse gases - that demonstrate commercial potential.

Eligibility criteria: All investment proposals must clearly demonstrate how the funding will lead to material CO2 emissions' savings while also generating a commercial return.  In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate the organisation's commercial viability, a strong management team, clear competitive advantage, confirmation of Intellectual Property protection and must be UK-based.  For furthyer information on the criteria, visit: http://www.carbontrust.co.uk/investments/venturecapital/investment_criteria.htm
